Personhood

The Democrats and liberals are coming unglued by Alabama’s abortion law.  Several states, including Missouri, have passed or are about to pass more stringent abortion laws as well.  Missouri’s law banning abortions after a heartbeat is detected is going to the governor, who says he will sign it.

Associate Justice Harry Blackmun wrote the majority opinion in Roe vs. Wade in 1973.  Bob Unruh’s report in World Net Daily said “When Blackmun wrote the Roe opinion, science was unclear about the personhood of the unborn.”  Blackmun said if the personhood of the unborn was ever established, that would end Roe vs. Wade.  And ever since, the Supreme Court has one way or another refused to rule on that particular issue.

Apparently the “personhood” of an unborn child is too abstract an idea for U.S. House Rep. John Rogers (D-AL): “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later.”

I find myself wondering if Mr. Rogers is a father, and somehow hoping that he isn’t.  I would dare say Rep. Rogers is not one of those politicians who have their picture taken holding babies.

But no matter what “science” thinks (or Rep. Rogers or anyone else), there is no question about the personhood of an unborn child.  Life begins at conception, and with that life a soul is created which is eternal, everlasting, with or without God.

Psalm 139.13-14 says “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 127:3-5:  “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.  Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.  They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

In Hebrews 10 it says “It’s a frightening thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.”  The NIV translates it as “dreadful.”

The judgment of the Creator on His creation will come as a result of the killing of the most cherished members of Creation–our babies.  Jesus said “suffer the little children to come unto Me.”  He said “if anyone – anyone — causes one of these little ones to stumble, it were better for them to have a mill stone tied around their neck and dropped into the sea.”

God’s love is everlasting to those who belong to Him.  God’s mercy is enduring; His forgiveness is complete.  But His chastisement is sure if we do not speak up for the unborn people in America.
