The following I received from one of my brothers:
I imagine that most, if not all, of us have some very special Christmas memories. I want to share a few of mine with you.
One of my earliest memories is of my bobsled. My father built it himself from 1” galvanized pipe, wood slats, paint, and a little rope. It worked well and was a favorite winter toy for many years. I still have it. I have treasured it for more than 60 years.
My father was a man of few words, but I knew he loved me.
After I got my drivers license I was bringing my girl friend home to spend Christmas eve. It was snowing and the roads were slick. In my 16-year-old wisdom, I decided to park on a side road and spend a few minutes kissing and hugging with my girl. But I backed into a ditch and literally stood the car on it’s side. I crawled out the uphill door and walked a ¼ mile to a farm house where I knew the people. The farmer came and pulled us out and the car was unhurt. I insisted on giving the farmer $5 even though he didn’t want it. A couple days later Dad handed me $5 dollars and simply said “Jake didn’t want your money”. He never mentioned it again.
My father was a man of few words, but I knew he loved me.
A long long time ago another Father gave a gift that is the most important one I ever received. It was a gift both unearned and undeserved. It was a gift of an eternal future to be spent with Him in heaven. All I had to do was accept the gift provided by Jesus Christ at the Father’s direction. Jesus died for my sin and made me acceptable to spend eternity with the Father. All I had to do was ask Jesus to forgive me and be my Savior.
My Father is a God of few words, but I know He loves me.
Merry Christmas, brothers and sisters in Christ, our Father is a God of few words, but I know He loves us.
