Merriam-Webster dictionary (online) gives this definition of “woke”: ‘Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).’
The Urban Dictionary (online) gives this definition: ‘The act of being very pretentious about how much you care about a social issue.’
Obviously those are not the only definitions, one being “aroused from sleeping” or being awakened. But the one we hear most is the Merriam-Webster meaning.
It seems the best phrase to replace “woke” with is “politically correct.” Politically correct can be applied to all situations where one wants to believe what one wants to believe. Since they are “woke” to the “facts”, regardless where or from whom those facts originate, they are what makes us all “woke.”
Here’s some things every one needs to be “woke” about:
There is a God, and the Devil is real. Heaven and Hell are not ideas, they exist “in the heavenly places” and are the spiritual eternal abodes of all of human kind.
You’re going to one place, or the other. There is no lobby, no waiting room, no “in-between.” Once the decision is made, there is not one chance in heaven or hell to change it.
But here’s the kicker: The decision is made while we are still alive!! The end of the decision-making time is directly related to and limited by our death. It is appointed to man ONCE to die. No do-overs on this earth. The death rate is one to one.
Do you know when you are going to die?
If this doesn’t show the urgency, the necessity for each of us to make that choice NOW, nothing does.
God made a Way, and He provided the way for us to make that decision while there is still time, while we are still on this earth. God loves each of us – YOU – so much that He sent His Son Jesus to be considered guilty for all of our sins and suffered the death penalty for us. But then Jesus defeated Death and the Grave and came back alive, making the way for us to become children of God.
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
THAT is being “woke.”
