From Gary Bauer, American Values:
Well, the polls this year were right. They predicted a “Blue wave,” and every media outlet is reporting the news that Republicans lost last night. But that is not the most accurate conclusion of what happened. American Christian values lost.
If you believe, as I do, that all of our children are made in the image of God and should be welcomed into the world and accepted as part of the American family, we lost. We just elected the most pro-abortion group of House and Senate candidates in history.
If you believe, as I do, that God created marriage as one man and one woman and that children should be protected from homosexual indoctrination, you and I lost. The people who just won are the most aggressive LGBTQ advocates ever elected to Congress.
If you believe, as I do, that the Jewish people are God’s covenant people, or if you’re a Jew worried about antisemitism, you and I lost last night. We just elected the biggest group of anti-Israel, antisemitic congressmen and senators in the history of this country.
If you believe America was founded on Biblical principles, on Judeo-Christian ideas and on the belief that liberty comes from the God of the Bible, not government, you and I lost last night. We just put anti-Christian bigots, left-wing Christian imposters, radical Islamists and radical Marxists in charge of the House and the Senate.
That idea that America is best when we run our own lives, not the government, lost. The belief that Jesus is the way, not Karl Marx, lost. Everything we care about got the “you know what” kicked out of it last night.
Don’t think what happened in yesterday’s election was just “politics.” What happened last night will negatively impact our faith, our families and our freedom in ways we can’t even begin to imagine.
Pray for America and for the future of our children and grandchildren. Pray that the scales would fall from many eyes and that the Church in America would wake up.
What Just Happened
Some people have said to me, “Gary, maybe God is giving America one last warning to get its act together.” I think that analysis is off in one important way. I accept the idea that God is giving us a warning, but the “us” is not America. It’s the Church.
America is not going to be better than the Church. Don’t expect your secular neighbors to vote the right way. Don’t expect the Islamists to vote the right way. Don’t expect the Marxists to vote the right way.
Sadly, we can’t even expect the Church to vote the right way if our pastors are not leading and not teaching their congregations how to think biblically about the issues confronting our country.
Christians Didn’t Show Up
As I was licking my wounds last night, I was thinking about what my friend Dr. James Dobson would be saying about these election results. He would be looking at specific races and what the results mean for the body of Christ. He would be beside himself with anger and, maybe, even a sense that it’s over for America.
Last night, a pastor from the largest Methodist church in America was elected as the next senator from Kansas. But instead of celebrating the news that a pastor was elected to the Senate, I’m disgusted because he is a left-wing Christian imposter, who is totally opposed to everything Bible-believing Christians cherish. He just defeated a commonsense, pro-life conservative.
This is one of the saddest observations of all. Republicans won last night in Florida, but just barely. The Democrat candidates who lost races for governor and senator got roughly four million votes each. That’s almost the exact same number of votes that Kamala Harris got two years ago when Donald Trump beat her by 13 points.
The Republican candidates for governor and senator fell far short of the votes Donald Trump received two years ago. So, it’s not like there were a bunch of new leftists in Florida. Two million conservatives just didn’t show up.
Obviously, some significant percentage of those 2024 Trump voters are Christians, and this dynamic played out in races all over the country last night. In spite of everything we knew about Marxists and Islamists hijacking the Democrat Party this year, we are actually looking into reports of record-low turnout among White evangelical Christians.
By the way, as of this writing, the incumbent Republican senator is losing in Mississippi—a state Donald Trump carried by 25 points just two years ago.
