A Multitude of the Heavenly Host

10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”    –Luke 2

The angels appearing to the shepherds might have been a continuance of the heavenly celebration ongoing since the birth of Jesus.  Consider the heavenly audience of angels waiting for the birth of The Creator!  Did they know God’s plan for Mankind?  Did they understand the eternal significance of God becoming man?

I believe so.

So imagine, if you will, the roar of angels across the universe at the moment of Jesus’ birth!  The Ultimate Gift of God to mankind appeared as promised, in the most humble of beginnings, yet the praise at that moment in Heavenly Places was the most magnificent, glorious, resounding, wonderful sound that was ever made up to that point in time.

Do angels sing?  Perhaps.  But I believe their voices are so pure, so melodious, that their speaking – especially in praise — sounds like music to our earthly ears.  The Heavenly Host knows how to praise their Creator!

There was another time I believe angels roared with praise:  When Jesus rose from the grave, defeating Death and Sin, opening the way for men and women to become Children of God and gain Eternal Life by believing in Jesus.

And there comes a time when the roar of angelic voices may be heard again, when Jesus returns to gather His children.  The complete fulfillment of the Promise of Salvation, the Thousand Year Reign, and the New Heaven and New Earth, culminating in Eternity with God, where Jesus is the Light — no more darkness, no more tears, no more pain, and we will join the Angels in praising our Lord and Creator!!

Hallelujah!!
