I’ve been reading Numbers, and when I read chapter 28, I am in awe of the sacrifice’s the Lord gave to Moses for the children of Israel to follow i.e., the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly sacrifices, the special day (Passover, Feast of Tabernacles, etc.) sacrifices, plus the sin sacrifices as needed for atonement of sin.
This required the intentional, concerted effort of the people to gather the sacrifices and present them to the priest, making sure the first-year lambs didn’t have a crooked tail or a black spot in their wool, or some other kind of blemish; the grain was pure with no rust or malformed kernels, from which the flour was made, pure and finely ground with no pieces of hull in it; and the oil was pure and clear.
The seriousness and gravity of these sacrifices cannot be overlooked.
Then I remembered Matthew 11:30: ” For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus said before that we who are “weary and burdened” (NIV) or “…ye who labor and are heavy laden.” (NKJV)
All of those sacrificial offerings were fulfilled by Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection! His blood is the final and everlasting sacrifice made to fulfill God’s requirement of atonement.
The rest which Jesus promised is rest for the soul, freed from the “labor” of the Law, if you will, and gives the direct Path to the Inner Court of God. The veil was torn from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51).
But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. –Romans 7:6
Jesus said “I am come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.” — John 10:9-11
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. –Titus 3:4-7
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. –Romans 12:1
Indeed, the yoke of Jesus is light; we only have to fully commit our lives to Him one time and He takes our burdens, worries, and fears in exchange for peace, rest, and everlasting life.
But what then?
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? –Micah 6:8
‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” –Matthew 22:37-40
Amen, and Amen!!
