Which is more important? The Crucifixtion or the Resurrection?
Sure, we can separate them into two separate events in a timeline of history. BUT we cannot divide them.
Two events, with Jesus Christ at the center, inextricably intertwined Eternally in history and in heaven, bringing about the possibility of reconciliation with God the Father through Jesus His Son.
Not only that, but the possibility and promise of Eternal Life is the result of the death and resurrection of Jesus:
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (Romans 5:10)
Jesus was told that Lazarus had died. (John 11) Martha, the sister of Lazarus, told Jesus that if He had only been there, Lazarus would not have died. But Jesus said to her “Your brother will rise again.” She said yes, she knew Lazarus would rise again at the resurrection of the last day.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Those who believe in Him will die on this earth, but will live forever in Eternity with Him and all those who also believe.
And for this reason Jesus died on the cross on this earth, and for the same reason He came back to life, defeating death, and making the way for all who believe to share in His death and resurrection and eternal life.
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper to remember His sacrifice for us.
We celebrate Easter to proclaim to the world He IS alive!
He’s alive! yes, He’s alive!
Yes, He’s alive and I’m forgiven,
Heaven’s gates are open wide!
He’s alive! yes, He’s alive!
Oh He’s alive and I’m forgiven
Heaven’s gates are open wide
He’s alive yes He’s alive
Hallelujah He’s alive
He’s alive and I’m forgiven
Heaven’s gates are open wide
He’s alive He’s alive He’s alive
I believe it He’s alive
