I must apologize to those who have subscribed to my blog, I have not been able to write much in the recent weeks.
My wife and I were both hospitalized (me with Influenza A and pneumonia, her with pneumonia) a week apart. About the time I got out, she went in.
Then on April 1st, she had a tumor removed from her small intestine, praise God it was benign! But what we were told would be a few days in the hospital turned into 19 days, most in Stepdown-ICU, then the remainder in “regular” patient care.
We finally came home on the 19th of April, and have since been in recovery mode, and just this week she has made some good progress and improvement.
I will say this: Had it not been for the excellent nursing staff and their care, it would have been a lot worse. Doctors don’t know every thing – that’s why they call it practicing medicine. The nurses are those who KNOW how the patient feels, know what the patient needs, and make suggestions to the doctor(s). But of course, they have to wait on the doctor to create the order. I dare say if the doctor isn’t full of himself and has any sense at all, he’ll act on their suggestions, and the patient will benefit from it. Otherwise, it becomes an exercise in power and position which the doctor(s) may not want to lose.
One other thing: If you have some surgery scheduled, unless you know and trust the surgeon, always get a second opinion. You’ll be glad you did. We did not, and my wife suffered for it.
At times like this it is hard to understand why God is letting this happen, but at the same time, we are not alone. Suffering is a common circumstance among Christians as it is in those who don’t know Jesus. But one thing is sure: Jesus KNOWS how we feel, He KNOWS our struggles, and He CARES about us and our well-being, and He gives us strength to endure, a shoulder to cry on, a Friend to listen, and a Saviour who promises wonderful things in time.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us… Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” —Romans 8:18, 26-28
